Good morning all! Well, I should say good afternoon, as it's now past noon! It's morning for me though, as I only woke up about an hour or so ago. I suffer from insomnia, which is a sleep disorder which prevents me from getting a good night's sleep. In addition to this, I also get woken by light, the slightest of noises (eg. music coming from downstairs, snoring etc.) and find it difficult to actually fall asleep in the first place, and stay asleep! My doctor has said I don't go into REM (which I think is the deepest part of sleeping) which is why my body is never fully asleep. It's a horrible thing to live with because it means I never sleep for more than four to five hours a night, and then feel sleepy during the day. Not very nice at all! I wish there was some cure (other than sleeping pills, which I try and avoid like the plague!) for this, something which would ensure I get a good 7.5-8 hours sleep a night. If anyone comes up with such an invention, please do let me know!
On a more positive note (or maybe not...!) my brother comes home in 11 days - hurrah (I think)! Haven't seen him since my wedding in October as he's been in Australia since July to do one of his semesters there - some study abroad programme or something. Will be nice to spend some time with him when he's back.
Have a lovely day, whatever you're doing and keep checking back here for updates :)
Love,
Shruti
Right now it’s 4.50am, on Sunday morning. Like with most nights I too suffer with insomnia. Whereas yours is very medically based, mine I think is emotionally related.
ReplyDeleteI used to be very much the same as you, I would only get a few hours of sleep, and then be a walking ‘zombie’ for the rest of the day. I too am not one to want to take sleeping pills, although I did try night nurse on one occasion, and it worked quite well. But, it can’t be good for you. lol
Well, firstly, I think I can help you with your tiredness. It doesn’t ensure you to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night, but, does at least stop you from feeling so sleepy the next day, after only completing a 4-5 hour sleep.
1) If you’re not a vegetarian, try and become one. When we combine meats with vegetable and carbohydrates, the body struggles to deal with it, and our digestion is prolonged, using up vital energy stores.
2) our last meal of the day should be no later than 6pm. If it solely consists of vegetables and carbohydrates, your body should have digested everything by 9/10pm at the latest.
3) No teas, no fruits, no nothing, after 6pm, except water.
This all ensures when you fall asleep for the few hours you do, your body is completely relaxed and completely resting, without any body processes taking place in the background.
Digestion is the worst, and uses up so much energy.
Now when you awake, you will feel somewhat vital and buoyant. lol
Secondly look at your lack of sleeping as a gift, not so much a curse. You’ve been given the gift of time. Where others are squandering hours of the days sleeping, you achieve the minimum and have the ability to experience so much more of life. You have time to do more of the things you love.
I read (a lot), I go to the gym early in the morning before work, I’m learning Hindi at the moment (just bought a programme the other week), and I philosophise. lol
I would never have been able to do all these things if not for my lack of sleeping gift. And so I am grateful and thankful every day. Because life is precious, and you want to doze yourself in every moment.
Here’s to, even less sleep, no tiredness, and more time for the things you love so much to do.
